Step 1 Diagnsotics
At uBreakiFix, everything begins with a diagnostic, which enables us to identify the issue and understand customer expectations. Some customers need to salvage their Mac, others, having already purchased a new one, require only data retrieval, and some prefer to preserve both their data and the Mac. Following the diagnostic process, our expert Mac technicians commence the diagnosis.
Step 2 Data Recovery Assessment
Data recovery on Mac computers, particularly those with soldered SSDs, can be quite challenging. The difficulty arises from the fact that the SSDs are integrated into the logic board (motherboard), leaving no straightforward method to remove the drive and connect it to another system for data recovery.
Regarding the Apple T2 Security Chip: Some Mac models are equipped with this chip, which provides hardware encryption for the data on the SSD. This feature can complicate recovery efforts because the encryption keys are stored within the T2 chip. Therefore, extracting data requires the chip to be functional. Consequently, the only way to retrieve data from such a device is to repair the logic board.

After presenting the diagnostic results and the proposed repair plan, we seek the customer's approval. This process includes providing a detailed explanation of the necessary repairs, costs, and expected outcomes.

This can only be confirmed after the initial diagnostics, which will determine whether or not we can save the data. If data retrieval is the customer's priority, our expert team will focus on that area, boasting a high success rate in data recovery.
